Microsoft Introduces Pluton, a Security Chip Designed For Future Windows 10

Microsoft Introduces Pluton, a Security Chip Designed For Future Windows 10 – Some time ago Microsoft introduced Pluton,a new security chip designed for Windows 10 PCs. Regarding this new chip, Microsoft Pluton is a security processor built into future CPUs and will reportedly replace the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) currently used to secure hardware keys and cryptography.

Basically as reported from Microsoft’spage, Pluton is based on the same security technology used to protect xbox, and in addition Microsoft is also working with Intel, AMD and Qualcomm to incorporate it into future CPUs.

“At AMD, security is our top priority and we are proud to have been at the forefront of hardware security platform design to support features that help safeguard users from the most sophisticated attacks,” ucap Jason Thomas, head of product security at AMD. “As a part of that vigilance, AMD and Microsoft have been closely partnering to develop and continuously improve processor-based security solutions, beginning with the Xbox One console and now in the PC. We design and build our products with security in mind and bringing Microsoft’s Pluton technology to the chip level will enhance the already strong security capabilities of our processors.” lanjutnya.

For its own design, the new chip is designed to block new attack vectors used to harm devices, including Vulnerability CPUs like Spectre and Metldown that we’ve known before.

In addition to this interesting pluton chip, it is rumored that the firmware update will come directly from Microsoft and will be launched from Windows Update, just like the Azure Sphere Security Service process connected with IoT devices.

But to be sure, it’s still unclear when PCs with Pluton Chips will be shipped, but both Intel, AMD and Qualcomm are all committed to building these Pluton-like functions into their CPUs in the future.

“This is a future thing we’re going to build in,” said Mike Nordquist, director of strategic planning and architecture at Intel as reported by The Verge. “The idea is that you don’t have to look for a motherboard with a TPM chip… so you just get it.” Nordquist also said that Intel supports different operating systems, “wanting to start doing different things for a bunch of different OS vendors.”.

In addition, although there is no clearer information about firmware support on Linux, Microsoft already uses Linux with Pluton on Azure Sphere devices, so Linux support will certainly remain available.

Google Extends Chrome Support For Windows 7 Through 2022

Google Extends Chrome Support For Windows 7 Through 2022 – As we know, initially the support of Google Chrome application and other Chromium Based applications for Windows 7 was limited to July 15, 2021 only, exactly 18 months since the discontinuation of Windows 7 support by Microsoft on January 15, 2020 yesterday.

However, there seems to be a change, based on Google’s announcement today, they have expanded chrome browser support in Windows 7 for up to 6 months, with which the end of support will now end on January 15, 2022.

The reason for this added support time is because most likely Google still realizes that there are still many Windows 7 users who buy Extended Security Updates that are arguably getting more expensive every month, and in addition there are still many large organizations that still use Windows 7 for their business purposes.

In its announcement page, Google also added that many organizations had been scheduled to migrate to Windows 10 this year, but due to pandemic issues, some companies delayed migrating their operating systems. In addition, about 21% of organizations are still in the process of migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

This massive migration process is likely to be completed in 2021, just before the end of Google Chrome for Windows 7 support.

In addition, Google also said that it will “continue to evaluate the conditions facing the company’s customers” and will communicate other changes in the future.

With this news, of course it is likely that other browsers based on chromium such as Microsoft Edge Chromium, Opera, Vivaldi, Brave and others will get the same additional support period for Windows 7.

The Spotify app in the Microsoft Store Is Now PWA-Based

The Spotify app in the Microsoft Store Is Now PWA-Based – In recent months, a number of third party applications in the Microsoft Store have received significant changes, some of which changed the application base from UWP to PWA, for example, the Instagram application that has become PWA in March 2020.

Now about this change, now it’s Spotify’s turn to make their app from PWA or Progressive Web Apps, which starting at version 1.158.820.0, you’ll probably see a pretty significant change in appearance, and very similar to Spotify Web if you’ve ever accessed it.

Well as usual, this base change certainly gets a number of interesting feedback, some like there are also who do not like, for example such as functional more limited, slow and some other problems that quite old users do not like.

But in addition to the Spotify application is basically still functioning the same, users can open it like an application in general without having to run under the auspices of the browser, and users can run the application directly from the Start Menu or Taskbar.

Well what do you think of this change? if you haven’t gotten this change, you can update your Spotify app in the Microsoft Store.

Opera 74 Brings Chrome Extensions Support Directly

Opera 74 Brings Chrome Extensions Support Directly – Although Opera is one of the browsers based on Chromium, unfortunately this browser does not support extensions from the Chrome Web Store directly and users must install Install Chrome Extensions first to enjoy and perform an extension installation of the chrome web store.

Although it’s not too difficult to activate it, Opera users feel they need to go through a few steps before they can install extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

And related to that, a good news finally appeared in Opera 74, where there has been an experimental flags ” NativeChrome webstore extensions installation” in the browser.

These flags will allow the opera browser to be able to directly perform extension installations from the chrome web store, and of course users no longer have to install install Chrome Extensions extensions first.

How to use itself, first right as in the picture above, the user for now must enable opera://flags#native-chrome-webstore-installation and change from default to enabled.

Furthermore, after the opera relaunch process, users can already perform extension installations available in the chrome web store.
Not yet officially released!

Please note that Opera 74, which was created based on chromium 88.0.4292.2, is not currently publicly available and is still in the development branch of Opera Developer versions. It may still take some time for this version to be released as final versions, but if you want to try this right now, you can download Opera 74 Developer on the following page.

Although for now it is still available as experimental flags, someday maybe this feature will come by default, so opera users just go directly to the chrome web store page and directly install the extension from there.

Tips to Search the Address bar Quickly

Tips to Search the Address bar Quickly – To perform a search, we usually type what will be searched through the address bar, and of course the results of those searches will be displayed based on the default search engine that the browser uses.

But for those of you who suppose to use two or more search engines for different purposes, you usually have to type duckduckgo.com > press the tab and directly type what is searched there. For example, as shown below.

The way is not wrong, but I think to type the search engine domain first is quite time consuming especially if it has to be done repeatedly when we will do the search again.

Well related to that, in the latest version of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Chromium, you can modify the search engine to open with just one letter, suppose you want to search in duckduckgo.com, if previously had to type the domain in full, now just type d > then press the tab, and of course when compared to the default option, this way is faster and more time-saving users.

How to Enable This Option

Well for those of you who want to enable this option, you can follow these steps.

Step 1. First, go to settings page > Search Engines.

The quick way please just go to the URL edge://settings/searchEngines, for Google Chrome users please customize.

Step 2. Well on that page, you just change the Keyword of your Favorite Search Engine, change it from (for example), bing.com to > b, google.com to > g, and duckduckgo.com to > d. Exactly as in the following image.

Microsoft Edge Chromium Gets ‘Ask before closing multiple tabs’ Option

Microsoft Edge Chromium Gets ‘Ask before closing multiple tabs’ Option – A new feature has again been added by Microsoft to their Microsoft Edge Chromium application, this feature is actually not a new feature either because in some other browsers such as Opera or Firefox already get a similar implementation.

Yep, as the title suggests, in Microsoft Edge Chromium Canary version 89.0.739.0 there will now be an ‘Ask before closing multiple tabs’ option, this feature is still not available by default but users must enable experimental flags “Askbefore Closing multiple tabs” first.

Once activated, on the Settings > Appearance page, you’ll find an ‘Ask before Closing multiple tabs’ option that you can activate.

Once activated, of course, when there are two or more tabs open, and you will close the browser completely, there will be a question whether you are sure you want to close all the tabs.

Web Capture Can Now Be Directly Saved to Collections in Microsoft Edge

Web Capture Can Now Be Directly Saved to Collections in Microsoft Edge – We are certainly familiar with web capture and collections features, both of which are useful features in Microsoft Edge Chromium, and did you know, in the latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary, it seems that Microsoft integrates both features loh, so that now every screenshot taken with Web Capture can be directly stored in Collections.

Well exactly as in the picture above, after the screenshot you took, you will find the Add to collections option at the top, adjacent to the regular Save button.

For the record, screenshots taken and saved to Collections do not contain a page address and are images only, so if you intend to access the page, then this feature is not for you to use.

Then most importantly, is this feature already available to all Microsoft Edge Canary users? hmm unfortunately not guys, because this feature has just been launched as part of A/B Testing, where only a small number of users get it, I myself have not, then have you got it?…
